EECP
What is EECP?
Enhanced External Counter Pulsation
Noninvasive treatment for angina (chest pain)
Reduces angina by helping small vessels around your heart become larger and more open, which allows better oxygen and blood supply to the heart
How does it work?
Large blood pressure-like cuffs are placed around the lower abdomen, thighs, and calves.
The patient is monitored with a continuous EKG which sets the timing of the cuffs’ inflation/deflation.
When the heart is at rest, the cuffs inflate, increasing blood flow to the heart.
As the heart beats, the cuffs deflate, decreasing the amount of work the heart has to do to pump blood to the rest of the body.
